Pape, Terfel and More!

Ok it’s not opera, I know! But I’ve had some good times listening to music from St. Petersburg with all the solemn basso profundo glory.

Linda di Chamounix - Gaetano Donizetti

My current voice teacher enters around the 12th minute. Been looking for a recording from his earlier career and I just recently found this.

When I Fall in Love - Carolina Alive

I posted this a while back on my main blog. Its the University of South Carolina’s Carolina Alive Vocal Jazz Ensemble singing When I Fall in Love with myself singing the solo.

Jacob Will - My own teacher at school! I don’t have to hope to learn from this man, I already have. In the year I’ve spent working with him I’ve learned more than I’d thought possible in such a relatively short period of time.  I owe this man a lot already and we’re only just beginning.

Mariusz Kwiecien  - A fantastic actor with natural flow onstage. His role in Don Pasquale as the doctor was fantastically comedic and suave all in one. Add excellent technique and you have an amazing operatic baritone.

Unfortunately, I Don’t Live in New York

But tonight I’ve got the chance to go to my local movie theatre and see the Live from the Met HD showing of Die Walkure with Bryn Terfel as Wotan and Deborah Voigt as Brunnhilde.  Looking forward to the show but not so much to sitting in a that theatre for almost 6 hours…

Bryn Terfel - My second great bass/baritone influence introduced to me by my father, who took an interest in the man after learning that he was Welsh.  It can be as simple as that sometimes.  I have studied Bryn much more recently as I was given “Non piu andrai” to learn by my voice teacher.

Rene Pape - My first real idol in the operatic world. The man with the ‘golden’ and ‘rich’ voice, I heard him first when I was in the 8th Grade.  The expressiveness, the stamina and the character of his voice is what I wish to learn the most.  I hope that some day I can have something of this man’s talent, if only just part.

Some of the fantastic singers and performers I look up to today and hope that I can learn from as I study music at the University of South Carolina.  I hope that I can come to make an impact on others’ lives as these performers have made an impact in my life.
